Clubs NOT to be trusted:
Angelic Brewery -
Do not do business with this club!
We ran sound there [hired
by the club] on 12.31.02 [new years eve]. And by the time we
finished running sound and cleaning up, it was 4am, so we asked
the bar manager if we could leave our PA syatem there at the
club overnight to pick it up the next day, after my crew was
rested. [this is pretty standard procedure].
Anyways - the next
day when we returned, the doors were locked, and we could not
gain access, we repeatedly called the manager [name coming soon]
and she did not answer. Finally I got a call the next day letting
me know we could enter to retrieve our gear.
Well, low and behold
- our entire outboard rig was gone when we returned, this
rolling rack cased unit enclosed our:
- Mackie
1604 professional mixing console
- 8 DOD
compressors, 4 EQ's
- Delays,
reverb units, CD player, direct boxes
- power
conditioners and much much more...
We informed the club
that the gear was gone, and at first the manager gave us
the impression like she did not believe us, then we asked for
the
securty camera tapes, and we were informed that the security
cameras were fake, we also discovered that the club had two
undocumented workers who worked in the kitchen who could no longer
be accounted
for. [and they were present the night in question - when
the gear dissapeared]. The manager was also reluctant to allow
us to search the premisis for our property, but finally did allow
us to, to no avail, the gear was never found.
The club signed our
standard live sound contract clearly stating that they were responsible
for the well being of our equipment while it was residing in
their club. Well - of course, this did'nt happen, that's why
we are here.
We actually had to
take the Angelic Brewery [which we later found out is owned
by a local group of attorneys] to court in Madison to try to
recover
our losses. These public records can be looked up in the Madison
Wisconsin archives.
The manager of the
Angelic and her attorney showed up to the court hearing 15
minutes late. The judge took both of our statements, well
ours at least, the Angelic did not have anything substantial
to say.
We showed the judge our signed contract, he placed a copy
of it into evidence. The judge then said he would contact both
parties
within 30 days with a decision.
After 30 days, we
received a notice stating that the judge forund the Angelic
Brewery completely void of any liability in the theft or loss
of our gear. In
other words - we get nothing, even though they clearly signed
the contract.
It was later found
out that the judge presiding in our case plays golf with some
of the attorneys who own the Angelic Brewery. This is a classic
case of the little guy [us] getting railroaded.
Our total loss on
this equipment [which we had to replace immediately, just to
stay in business] was 5,500.00 + court fees [unrecovered] and
time and energy wasted on this lost cause.
Note - The manager
of the Angelic Brewery actually asked the judge to force
Spyder-Studios to remove this information about the case from
our website, but
the judge said "he could not force us to do that" due
to "freedom of speech" and so - here you are reading it,
now ya know the jist of why
we can't
stand
the Angelic Brewery, and why we suggest to everyone -
Do NOT do
business with this club!
