Theory - one way of thinking...
Swelling Population Affects Health and Future of Planet. The environmental impact of the growing global population will affect the water we drink, the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the overall quality of life. The ecological effects of human activity are felt the world round. The greenhouse gas emissions generated in the US will have effects on crop yields from Michigan to Morocco. There are 6.5 billion people on Earth and according to the UN, by 2050 will add another 2.6 billion. The problems we face are not hopeless, we know how to stem population growth but the Bush administration is stifling women's rights and the future of our planet. For four years Bush has imposed the Global Gag Rule, which restricts foreign nongovernmental organizations that receive money from the US for family planning services from using their funds to provide abortion services or petition their governments to liberalize abortion laws. Birth control is now being attacked on the domestic front as the FDA is stalling on approval for the emergency contraceptive. The government is promoting abstinence-only sex education, which is often inaccurate. At the urging of the right-wing, pharmacists are refusing to fill birth control prescriptions. July
